EDUCATOR LEAGUE RULES
GAME RULES:
Each team is allowed two (2) timeouts per half.
The game consists of two (2) 20-minute running halves.
Halftime lasts exactly 3 minutes.
The clock runs continuously for all infractions, including fouls, in the first half. In the second half, stoppage time is set at 2 minutes.
Standard foul shot rules apply: 1-and-1 for the 7thβ9th team foul and 2 shots for the 10th foul and beyond.
A technical foul results in two (2) awarded shots.
Players must check in and out at the official's score table.
Overtime lasts three (3) minutes, with the clock stopping after 2 minutes for all infractions.
At least one player of each sex must be on the court at all times. If this requirement isn't met, teams must play short.
Team Rules for 5 v 5: If a team has only 4 players, the opposing team can choose to play 4 on 4 or 5 on 4. A fifth player can join the game upon arrival to the facility.
A team with less than 4 players ready for play at the scheduled time will forfeit the game. A 5-minute grace period is allowed for late players. If a team forfeits twice in a season, they will be ineligible for the next season.
GYM RULES:
Teams are responsible for the school facilities they use.
Participants must change into basketball shoes after entering the building. Outdoor shoes or boots are not allowed near the court.
All trash, including water bottles, must be picked up and properly disposed of.
Vandalism of any part of the facility or its equipment will result in immediate removal from the league without a refund.
FORFEITS:
Teams must notify the EDL as soon as possible if they are unable to field a full team (4 or more players) for any regular season or playoff game. Notification must be made the night before the game by emailing the league at educatorleague1@gmail.com.
If a team forfeits twice in a season, they will be ineligible for the next basketball season.
SUSPENSIONS:
Any player who receives two (2) technical fouls in one (1) game or is ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct will be immediately ejected from the gym and receive a one (1) game suspension. In cases where intentional bodily harm occurs, the player will be removed from the league.
If an ejected player refuses to leave or re-enters the gym on the same day, their team will automatically forfeit the game. The individual responsible will also be removed from the league.
FOULS & VIOLATIONS:
Referees will follow current Massachusetts High School rules, and any rules not specifically covered in these rules will default to those rules. Examples include backcourt violations and 3, 5, and 10-second violations.
During foul shots, players lined up can break when the shooter releases the ball. Shooters and those behind the arc must wait for the ball to hit the rim.
Players foul out on their 5th personal foul.
Offensive player control fouls result in a turnover.
The 3-second violation is in effect.
If fouled before the buzzer sounds, but the buzzer goes off before the ball can be put back into play, the fouled player will receive foul shots.
Teams can only make substitutions during dead balls.

TEAM ROSTERS (GENERAL INFORMATION):
All teams must complete and sign the EDL registration form, which will serve as the official team roster.
Registration form contains a waiver and press release.
Only players listed on the team roster who have participated in at least (3) of their team's regular-season games are eligible to play in the playoffs.
All players must be employees of the school team.
Each team is allowed a maximum of 15 players.
Players cannot be registered on two teams within the same league simultaneously.
PLAYOFF ELIGIBILITY / POSTSEASON ROSTER PROTEST:
Only players listed on your team's roster are eligible to participate in the postseason.
Rosters are considered "frozen" after the completion of the third week of the regular season.
Players can only be added to a team's roster after this point with permission and clearance from an EDL management staff member.
To be eligible for the postseason, a player must have participated in at least (3) regular-season games.
POSTSEASON ROSTER PROTEST (i.e., challenging a team's roster during the playoffs):
The opposing team captain has the right to challenge a playoff roster by notifying the official.
The official will pause the game and review the scorers' book.
If the challenged player is found to be absent from the team roster, the player will be removed from the game.
If the removal of the challenged player results in the team having an insufficient number of players, the game will be forfeited, and the challenging team will be awarded the victory.
Roster challenges must be made at the beginning of the game.
Roster challenges made after the game has concluded will not be considered.
